Don’t get me wrong, I do appreciate the good work of art, but buying a painting for as high as three hundred million dollars, remains a mystery to me.

This is another famous painting by Jackson Pollock, the painting was made in 1948 and was sold to David Martinez in November 2006 for $140 million. The painting was created on fibreboard and liquid paint was used in the process.

This is a 1917 oil on canvas painting by the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. The name “Nu Couche” is also known as Red Nude or Reclining Nude in English. It was sold to Liu Yiqian at $170.4 million. This particular painting is one of the most famous series of nudes by Modigliani.

This painting was made in a pair of full-length wedding portraits by Rembrandt in 1634. It was sold for $180 million to Rijksmuseum & Louvre Museum in September 2015. The portraits were painted by Rembrandt upon the occasion of the wedding of Marten Soolmans and Oopjen Coppit in 1634.

Painted in 1951, the No. 6 (Violet, Green and Red) was sold at $186 million, to Dmitry Rybolovlev in a private sale. The artist behind the work was the Russian-American Abstract expressionist; Mark Rothko.

Number 17A is the famous painting by Jackson Pollock. It was sold by the David Geffen Foundation to Kenneth C. Griffin for $200 million. Jackson Pollock was an American painter known for his contributions to the abstract expressionist movement.

When will You Marry currently on loan to the Kunstmuseum in Basel, was sold for a record $300 million to Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani. The painting is an oil work by the French artist Paul Gauguin in 1892.

The painting was the most expensive painting in the world; until Interchange was bought at the same price a couple of months after.

The Interchange was bought for $300 million by Kenneth C. Griffin in September 2015. Willem de Kooning was the artistic genius behind this work. The painting itself was completed in 1955 and measures 200.7 cm x 175.3 cm.

The painting is currently on loan at the Art Institute of Chicago.
