Get ready, Doctor Strange is coming to Cinemas near you.

Marvel comics have no doubt created some of the best superheroes in history.

Spiderman, Captain America, The Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Iron Man Wasp, Wolverine, Thor, Jean Grey, Daredevil, Storm and Mystique are all names you are probably familiar with.

But one lesser known name that you probably don’t know about but definitely should is ‘Stephen Strange’, Doctor Stephen Strange.

Doctor Strange is definitely one of Marvel’s more interesting characters.

For Starters, his Official Title is ‘Sorcerer Supreme’

Yes, really. How cool is that?

It is the Sorcerer Supreme’s duty to safeguard the world from mystical and magical threats.

If you’ve seen any of the million TV spots Marvel has released to create the hype for the film, then you must have heard Benedict Wong’s character utter the phrase, “The Avengers protect the world from physical dangers. We safeguard it against more mystical threats.”

Doctor Strange was created by Steve Ditko (Stan Lee’s partner) as an avenue to explore how mysticism plays into the world of superheroes.

The Movie Plot will Closely Follow the Comic Book Origins

In the comics, Doctor Strange is a brilliant, yet egotistical surgeon who gets into a car accident which not only destroys his hands but also hinders his abilities to perform surgery.

In search of a solution to fix his hands, he wanders the globe but instead finds the Ancient one.

The Ancient One is Doctor Strange’s mentor and the previous Sorcerer Supreme.

The Ancient one takes Stephen Strange under his tutelage teaching Stephen both martial arts and the mystical arts.

With a wide array of powerful spells, a personal valet – Wong and mystical artifacts – the Cloak of Levitation and the Eye Agamotto, Dr. Stephen Strange becomes both the superhero we want and we deserve.

The premise of the movie takes a similar path with the Sorcerer Supreme’s origin story in the comics.

It is Marvel’s Darkest Undertaking yet

Well, at least in the cinematic universe and that is saying something because well, we all saw Captain America: Civil War.

Captain America: Civil War took Marvel down a pretty dark path, and we are grateful.

While not as dark as movies from the DC Extended Universe, Civil War still stepped up to the plate.

The movie takes place approximately one year after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron and chronicles the disagreement of the Avengers over the Sokovia Accords.

While Captain America believes that superheroes should be free to defend humanity to the best of their abilities without government intervention; Iron man, on the other hand, believes governmental oversight should be installed for accountability sake.

While things escalate pretty drastically, things always seem to get worse when The Winter Soldier is thrown into the mix.

And to think, Doctor Strange’s tone is even going to be darker than this.

It is going to be the most Visually Appealing and Challenging Marvel Movie so far

Thanks to all the tv spots and trailers, we know we’re in for some pretty mind melding visual trip.

Think Inception but on steroids… and with magic.

If you’re not excited about that, I know what to tell you.

Even actors from other Marvel franchises are excited for this one.

Anthony Mackie who played Sam Wilson (Falcon) in the Captain America & Avengers franchises can be quoted saying:

“Doctor Strange, just from the artwork that I have seen, it’s gonna be so different, so far out and so creatively stimulating that’s going to blow everything out of the water.”

There’s a Guest Appearance from a Member of the Avengers in the Mid-credits Scene

You might not want to rush out of the cinema immediately after the movie is over.

As with most Marvel movies, there are after credits scenes.

The first Doctor Strange after credits scene features a conversation with between Doctor Strange and an Avenger – I choose not to say who (but I really want to).

Knowing that Doctor Strange will appear in Avengers: Infinity War, this could just be a teaser that shows how the two franchises would link together.

And the second after credits scene nods to the direction the next installment of the franchise is heading.

Hint: It features Baron Mordo.
